Dining In Cannes

June 7, 2009

Trying to find somewhere nice to eat in Cannes is not very hard, however, trying to find somewhere that serves good food and does not require the salary of a F1 driver to dine, is bit more of a challenge.

So when you accidentally come across a small quirky restaurant away from the roar of the mammoth cars and the pretentious tourists, you have to question why you have not heard of this place before. Bistrot Gourmand looks like a converted shop, displays a very mediocre interior and even their website looks questionable.

The entrance is very basic but rustic with large windows and the finishing of a property that has seen better days . Robbie Williams was bellowing out of the stereo as we entered and I had to question, where we had found ourselves. Come on, I have just seen yachts worth millions of pounds and paid €20 for ice cream and water, so forgive me for being slightly pretentious. Saying that, everyone has their faults and you cant knock a good chef just by his music choice.

Joking aside, Bistrot Gourmand serves a three course set meal for €30 and has to have been some of the best food I have ever eaten. The quality of the meats and finishings, must be in comparison to some Michelin star restaurants. The concept of keeping the food and surroundings basic but traditional has to be the reason behind their success.

Overall Experience – Highly Recommend
